Pier Village (Long Branch?)

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

I just searched for Pier Village Long Branch in Google. I got a bunch of sites that mention the Pier Village, but not the Pier Village site.

Quick Web Lesson
This is because the the site was built in Flash and Flash does not get indexed in search engines. That means the search engines won’t find any bit of text in that Flash file. It also means that this page will be found sooner than the Pier Village site will be if someone searches for Pier Village Long Branch.

I did find the site by searching for Pier Village, and that’s good. But this is only because www.piervillage.com is the domain and Google is smart that way.

Also, if you were to search for pier village mcloone’s pier house, I would think you would see 2 listings. One for the Pier Village and one for the Pier Village Mcloone’s Pier House page. But alas, you won’t. As a matter of fact, you get similar results to the initial search on Pier Village Long Branch.

This would be different if part of the requirements in the web document were to “build the Pier Village web site with best search engine marketing practices to ensure proper spidering of search engines.” This is web speak for, “Your site will be found on the web.”

If you have a site that you’d like found on the internet, feel free to shoot me an email and we can chat.

Walk the Line and the Urinal at Beach Cinema

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Another fun-filled evening was spent at at the Beach Cinema, 110 Main St., Bradley Beach, NJ this evening. This week, Walk the Line staring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter.

Overall, a good movie, though, maybe there could have been a few less pill-popping scenes which could have lessened the run time of 136 min. Or maybe it was the waiting outside in the opening day like line that made the movie seem a bit long in the tooth.

The outing did bring an opportunity! I brought the camera this time to take a shot of the dedicated urinal. Below is the dedication and the urinal itself!

Urinal Dedication

Pride & Prejudice

Monday, January 16th, 2006

I saw the movie “Pride & Prejudice” at the Beach Cinema, 110 Main St., Bradley Beach, NJ this evening under the guise that there may be a gratuitous nudity scene (UPDATE - This was a joke, enough with the letters.).

Not a chance. I think I could have counted on one hand or at most on the toes of a Hemingway cat the number of times human contact took place. I’m guessing disease was rampant in the good olde days and they hardly ever touched another human due to the fear of contracting some hiddeous disease.

They probably will save the contact for “Pride & Prejudice II” given that the desperate mother has wed off or engaged to be married 3 of her 5 daughters by the end of the movie.

The best part of the movie occured while in the bathroom. Printed on a plastic 3″ x 6″ plaque was something like “This urinal is in memory of Harry who has been a customer of Beach Cinema since 1935” or something like that.

Price of a movie ticket at Beach Cinema - $3.75
Time invested - 1 hour 47 minutes
Amount of gas to get there and back - 1/4 tank

Having a urinal dedicated to your memory - priceless

I only hope that when I die, someone devotes the most heavily used urinal in history to me.

Coming soon to Beach Cinema, “Walk the Line” and “Memoirs of a Geisha”.

For those of you who can’t wait for “Pride & Prejudice II”.

NYU here I come

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

It’s back to school week! As of this week, I am going part-time at my full-time gig and going full-time at my part-time studies.

After much deliberation and financial ponderings, I have decided to jump into the deep end of debt and go to school full-time to finish my MA in Graphic Communications in Management and Technology at NYU.

At this rate, I will be finished this time next year. This will give recruiters and HR personnel plenty of time to write offer letters and consider signing bonuses! Or at least it will give me a year to figure out what I want to do with my new found knowledge and debt. :)

I have a couple of ideas, we’ll see how it goes.
